We call it the heart of Playa del Carmen, but if it weren’t so close to the sea, we would call it...
Why is the 5th Avenue so important in Playa del Carmen?
If you visit the Riviera Maya, 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen is an iconic place that you cannot miss. Everyone will recommend it, and here we will tell you why.
5th Avenue is the heart of Playa del Carmen. It is a 3 kilometers pedestrian street parallel to the beach. Here, you can find an immense number of restaurants, spas, cafes, shopping malls, boutiques, luxury brands, jewelers, ice cream parlors, art galleries, crafts, and various souvenirs, for all tastes and budgets.
In the mornings, 5th Avenue is mostly a commercial area, but at night it is the soul of Playa del Carmen's nightlife. At the intersection between the 5th and 12th Avenue, you will find a wide variety of bars, clubs, and shows to end your vacation with a party night.
The 5th is also a connection to other zones of the Riviera Maya. Near the beginning of this Avenue, there is the pier where the ferries transport passengers to the island of Cozumel, embarking every half hour. In the corner with Juárez Avenue, you will find the bus station to go to Cancun, Tulum, or other nearby tourist areas.
At the end of your tour on the Fifth Avenue, you will find the beach area where you can relax or take a picture at the famous Portal Maya that adorns Parque de Los Fundadores (Founders' Park). It is one of the classic shots you have to show off on social media.
