We call it the heart of Playa del Carmen, but if it weren’t so close to the sea, we would call it Playa's spine.

More than 2.5 miles to walk and explore

5th Avenue is one of Playa del Carmen's main streets, but cars and bikes are out of the question, since it's meant for you to enjoy long walks. There are plenty of restaurants, shopping malls, and handcraft stores, as well as parks and other interesting places for you and your family to explore.

Let us tell you about that.

The best tour in town

You could start at Paseo del Carmen, a small shopping mall next to 5th Ave and a nice alley where you could have a cup of coffee before heading to Fundadores park, where every visitor should have their picture taken at the Mayan Portal, something that your kids will enjoy a lot. Nuestra Señora del Carmen chapel, a little church nearby, overlooks the sea.

Near 8th Street, you will find a little museum devoted to Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, where you could take a guided tour to learn more about this extraordinary artist's life and work.

Between 12th and 14th Ave, you will find Calle Corazón, a street full of stores, restaurants, and art galleries. Playa del Carmen's aquarium will be your children's favorite spot.

A few blocks from here, on Constituyentes Ave, you will get to Quinta Alegría, another shopping mall. You could go on until 34th Street, where it starts running out of interesting places.

Once you finish your tour, in addition to all of the above, you will have seen all kinds of Mexican handcrafts, as well as jewels, cocoa and chocolate stores, and any kind of Mexican products.

What are you waiting for to enjoy this experience with your family?
