5 Little Friends You'll Find in the Mayan Riviera

tortuga-marina

If you come to the Mayan Riviera with your family, and take a tour to the cenotes, unspoilt beaches, mangroves, or the Mayan jungle, you'll probably find some of the following little fellows who inhabit this magical place.

Coati

coati

These cute large-nose mammals, who dwell with grace both on the ground and the trees, are omnivorous, but, please, don't feed them. They hang around in groups of 5 to 20 females or young males.

Opossum

It's the most famous Mexican marsupial. Opossums eat bugs, fruits, little birds and reptiles, as well as some food they find in the garbage. Although they were regarded as evil, now they are a protected species because they are helpful pest controllers.

Ocelot

ocelote

This beautiful feline is smaller than the jaguar. Although they avoid making contact with humans, maybe you could catch a glimpse of them. They are peaceful animals, and make no harm to people.

Boa

With an imposing presence, especially if they take you by surprise, boas are not venomous snakes nor dangerous animals for people. Feel safe around them and stare in awe at their elegant manners.

Sea turtles

Because of the warm water, turtles enjoy the Caribbean Sea. There are several species, like loggerheads, white turtles, and hawksbill turtles, the latter being an endangered species. It's very important not to bother adult females that spawn at the beach, as well as their offspring. And please don't eat nor buy sea turtle eggs!

As you can see, the Mayan Riviera's exuberant beauty is a treasure of Nature. Flora and fauna are important and valuable as well as the beach and the jungle, and we must preserve them. At Happy Address we are committed to these values, just as we are committed also with our clients' satisfaction. We see you here!
